The Widow's Mite / Biednej Wdowej Grosz

The Widow’s Mite

July 27, 2009

Today one of my friends hurt my feelings.  Not intentionally, I just took it that way because I’m pregnant.  So, I was lying in my hospital bed crying.  The cleaning lady came in and asked what was wrong.  I briefly told her it was something about a friend, but mostly hormones and that I just can’t stop.

I quickly changed the conversation to her, to distract myself from my self-made “misery”.  She told me that she works here cleaning for $6.50 per hour.  She said she doesn’t qualify for Medicaid but it so hard to buy benefits on her meager income.  She also told me that both she and her daughter have diabetes.  He daughter only has Medicaid for one more year and she is hoping that minimum wage will go up to $ 7 per hour so maybe she will be able to buy benefits for her daughter.  She hopes that God will somehow help her figure that out.

She cleaned my room really meticulously, even doing the windows.  Many of the other cleaning ladies only take the trash out.  She did everything: the table, the floor, the bathroom, all the chairs and window ledges.  Then she left…and came back and brought me a stuffed dog.  And kindly told me that it’s a present from her to help me feel better…

Then I really couldn’t stop crying.  I’m still crying, so touched by her kindness.  Thank you Betty Hickson, housekeeping aide at University Hospital of Augusta.

“41And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much.

42 And there came a certain   poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.

43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.” ---ST Mark 12:41-44

Dzisaj jedna moja kolezanka mnie zasmucila.

Umyla okna i parapety, stol, krzesla, lazienke, i wszytkie podlogi.

Dziekuje Ci Betty Hickson, Pani sprzataczka w Szpitalu University w Augusta.

“(41) Potem usiadł naprzeciw skarbony i przypatrywał się, jak tłum wrzucał drobne pieniądze do skarbony. Wielu bogatych wrzucało wiele. (42) Przyszła też jedna uboga wdowa i wrzuciła dwa pieniążki, czyli jeden grosz. (43) Wtedy przywołał swoich uczniów i rzekł do nich: Zaprawdę, powiadam wam: Ta uboga wdowa wrzuciła najwięcej ze wszystkich, którzy kładli do skarbony. ---Ew. Marka 12:41-44

It is indeed a sad state of affairs when the people who work for the hospital can't even dream of affording the benefits! I make a bit more than that poor woman, but cannot afford the benefits.
On the other hand, I am glad that someone was able to show you such kindness and glad that you are able to maintain this pregnancy. Keep up the good work!

It's those sweet acts of kindness that remind you or the greatness of God and His love for each of us. It also makes you realize how something so small makes such a great difference. I had many tears of gratitude last year when so many people were so kind to me in our time of need. May you have many more. Love ya.

It's been great reading your comments on Brandi's blog, so I hope you don't mind me lurking on your blog. I loved this post. It was so uplifting- even under what seems to be the most meager of circumstances the Lord has us His ever watchful care. It is a reassuring thought when the world seems to be raining down on us. It helps to know that our trial will not last forever, and that we won't be tested more then we can handle. So thanks for the great post!

That was very touching! I am so glad you had that experience!

I hope you got the book I sent you. It's a biography so it reads less inspirational than I expected but I still felt uplifted. I hope you enjoy it.
